Municipal integrated transport system

Traffic and regional planning tasks using aggregated and evaluated traffic and location data of mobile networks

Client: ROPID (Regional Organiser of Prague Integrated Transport), an organization based Rytířská 10, Prague 1, ID: 60437359

The contract for work from 6. 6. 2014

Place and date: Prague, 2015.

Summary

The object of the project was to solve transport and regional planning tasks using aggregated and evaluated traffic and location data of mobile networks in the demo area. Provided services targeted research in the field of public transport planning, based on aggregated and evaluated data of users of mobile telecommunications networks and their combination with data from the Czech Statistical Office data, the clients´ data to determine the confidence intervals of the investigations. The result of the work is a proven technology for determining indicators of the presence and movement of groups of people in space and time used for the system of public transport planning. Part of the work is to determine the conditions of application in the production process (planning of Prague Integrated Transport).

Findings regarding the usefulness of technology in various practical assignments, solving methods, quality and usability in practice were agreed by the contractor and the client and can be summarized as follows:

  • Determination of the number of people in basic settlement units and their classification in relation to mobility in time and space. Conclusion: The technology is suitable for a practical implementation, usable and sufficiently precise.
  • Determination of directional numbers of out-commuters. Conclusion: The technology is suitable for a practical implementation, usable and sufficiently precise.
  • Determination of the number of passengers on selected routes. Conclusion: The use of technology for solving this task is conditioned by an increase in the accuracy of boarding passengers traveling on the line. Results presented in conjunction with the adjustment of input datasets provide good conditions for the use of technology for this type of task.
  • Assigning routes between source and destination trips/commuting according to the transport mode and the use of transport networks. Conclusion: The use of technology for solving tasks is subject to verification in an appropriately defined area of interest and determination of transport mode. Also, an increase in accuracy according to the previous point is a must.
